This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher in a low-income, inner-city school region with a large, diverse population. Most of my students are first-generation Americans or immigrant children from a variety of South American countries. My students are faced with many challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Throughout the school year, it is our goal to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion of all! Our school is a Title I (which means a school with large concentrations of low-income students) school.
Many students in our school qualify and enter our school through the Head Start Program, which is available for children who are from families with incomes below the poverty guidelines, children from homeless families, and/or families receiving public assistance.
Some of the students in my classes are special needs students who suffer from attention deficit disorder (ADHD), are ESL students (English as a Second Language) and/or have other types of special needs. Regardless of their challenges, though, the majority of the students are very determined and eager to succeed. In spite of their personal experiences, most of my students are very active, enthusiastic learners who possess a thirst for knowledge.
My Project
I plan to create a motivational program that will empower our cross country team to adopt and maintain a healthy, focused and active lifestyle as they prepare for competition. I intend to have our runners engage in a series of aerobic exercises and activities using the requested fitness trackers and insulated water bottles and hair ties. The runners will be encouraged to engage in a variety of aerobic exercises including walking, jogging, running and participation in sports related activities as they prepare for upcoming events. They will be encouraged to keep hydrated at all times using the water bottles and to use the fitness trackers as they exercise in order to keep accurate data on distance, time and heart rate at all times.
It is my hope that the use of the fitness trackers to monitor physical health and fitness will provide my student runners with an opportunity to become healthy and fit as they develop into productive, active athletes of the future.
