Mrs. McCrury from Odessa TX is requesting Computers & Tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students 2 Ipads to ensure they are technologically ready to face the future as leaders.
I am a second grade teacher in a beautifully blended class of multi-leveled learners. The future is full of possibilities for these curious children. Encouraging each child to strive to reach their full potential is my fundamental classroom goal. Our school is classified as a low socio-economic campus. Of my 23 second graders, 6 are severely below grade level, 4 are retained, 4 are identified as Gifted, and 2 are ELL. Each of my 23 students deserve the very best that second grade can offer them.
As students train to become tomorrows leaders, technology is a crucial element in preparing for the future.
One area our classroom is lacking is in technology. These children come from families with limited finances. Vacations, weekend trips, or even in town movies are not an option for most of my students. These children have plans for their future, maybe an astronaut, a football player, nurses, electricians, oceanographers, an actor, teacher or a stay at home parent. All of these professions currently use technology, and this usage will only increase in the future. Technology for our classroom would greatly enrich these student's lives.
Two Ipads in my classroom will open doors that have previously been closed for my students. These children will be able to read millions of online books. Children will take virtual field trips to America's Beautiful National Parks and National Monuments. Future scientists will be able to explore the Galaxy. Little Environmentalists will be able to research food webs and the effects of water pollution.
Two IPads will provide these precious learners access to a Universe of Possibilities.
My students will be able to use apps to present and share reports with not only their classmates, and school buddies, but network with students in other schools.Apps like Sock Puppet, Tellagami and YAKIT Kids allow students to present research projects using character Avitars. Young scientists can record and report experimental discoveries. Green screen technology will allow students to teach a lesson about a researched National Monument.Unlimited options are available for our classroom. My students can research, virtually travel to Africa, and have limitless adventures through reading and sharing books. Did I mention all the other educational benefits? Math games, Science exploration, current events, creativity with Minecraft and techno-social interaction. Please help giving these students the gift of technology.
