My Students
Many of the students in my classes struggle with reading. They work diligently every day in an attempt to achieve grade level reading skills. This is made even more difficult by the conditions in which they live.
Most of the students in my classes come from low-income homes and many are ELL students.
Because of their low level of reading, they don't enjoy the process and the struggle continues. My goal, as a reading and Language Arts teacher, is to not only help my students achieve grade-level reading skills but also to help them develop a love of reading.
My Project
I am currently using an overhead projector that is slowly burning itself out. Although I am not sure how old it is, I am fairly certain it has been in the school for over 30 years. I found it in tucked away in back closet of our school library. When I brought it to my classroom, the kids were fascinated. They love using it when we are have whole-group discussions.

My students are going to want a new overhead projector if our current one goes to the great beyond. Class participation has greatly improved and the kids are so happy to be the one to write on the glass of the projector. It seems to have motivated kids to find an answer to share with the rest of the class. Honestly, what more could a teacher want?
