Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Imagine going on a journey through the Caribbean listening to music sweet like the sugar cane fields and banana trees. Hit shuffle and you begin to hear the sounds of the ocean. Currently I teach second grade in a low-income school district on the east side of San Jose, however, I would love to give my students the experience of going to the Caribbean. Recently I attended an Apple School Night at a nearby Apple Store. I was so impressed by the technology so many schools have in place. I purchased an ipod shuffle, and already my students are becoming ipod junkies. They have all their favorite sounds for each unit downloaded. This means for our current unit, dinosaurs, the students are listening to the roar of a T-Rex and the sound track for Jurassic Park. Their favorite special workshop treat is listening to the music on the ipod and then writing their journal reflection. The ipod I am requesting in this proposal will revolutionize the way my students hear. The ipod is a portable learning tool, allowing anywhere, anytime access to speeches, audio books, and music. The video on this ipod model will also allow more interaction with the media. The opportunities are endless to seamlessly create, organize, distribute, and access all kinds of learning material through this amazing tool. Using the ipod video will help the students create their final class project presentations. Parents and families will come to the school to watch historical documentaries, poetry books, digitally enhanced science reports, music documentaries, and so much more. Every year the students create final projects for our May Open House. I hope this tool can be a resource that assists them in their projects. Thank you for consideration of our proposal.
