I teach second grade bilingual students in Houston, Texas. My students come from multiple backgrounds. My school is a Title One school and the majority of our students come from low income homes which qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Last year we were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Our school suffered water damaged and many of our students homes also suffered damages.
My students are like sponges, ready to absorb everything that they are exposed to.
With the right supplies, my students will be able to excel in their learning. We need help in order to accomplish this; unfortunately, the school is unable to provide all of the materials to do so.
The iPad is the best way I can think of to offer this to my students. The iPads would allow my students to have access to the latest type of technology and to help my students become more motivated. We will use these iPads individually, in small groups and in large groups. The students will be able to access flashcards, stories, basic phonics applications, short stories with animation and so much more. They will be so excited with the technology that they will forget that they are learning. I am also asking for heavy duty cases to protect them from any accidents and so my students in the future will also be able to enjoy them. We need headphones so we stay focused and not disturb other around us. We also need book bags to neatly store our books in the listening center and to store our headphones, ensuring they will last for years to come.
Can you imagine all the learning that can be done just because they are having the opportunity to use technology?
You could give our students the opportunity to grow and see how technology is changing the world. You can change the world by helping these kids. Thank you!
