My students need pencils and a pencil sharpener. Learning without these two supplies is near impossible.

My Students

I teach at a Title 1 school. The majority of the students receive free or reduced breakfast/ lunch. Most of my students are from low income homes. Some move around a lot or live with relatives. School is the only stable environment that some of them have. They want to learn and do better.

My students are ready and eager to learn.

They come to me with open minds, ready to soak up everything they can. They are the reason I do what I do, which is give them many opportunities to be anything they want to be. My students are AWESOME! I want to help them as much as I possibly can.

My Project

Pencils and pencil sharpeners are essential to learning. We, as educators, supply a lot of pencils through out the year. Pencils are a necessity. We expect our students to come prepared every day. However, we do not know what their home life is like. We do not know why they do not have the supplies that are required.

We need things that some parents/ guardians can not supply.

Yes, you think everyone can afford pencils, but that is not the case. Some parents/ guardians can not afford pencils, paper, and all of the other supplies that teachers ask for.

Pencil are a part of our daily learning. My kids come in and the first thing out of their little mouth is, "I need a pencil." Having pencils available to my students will make everything run so much easier for them as well as me.
