My Students
The Mastery School is a charter school located in North Minneapolis. The school serves students who receive 100% free and reduced lunch. Students come to school each day eager to learn and ready to work hard.
Our school is on a spending freeze and we need supplies for our classroom.
Students come to school each day eager to learn and ready to work hard.
I teach the 4th grade girls, along with my co-teacher. We are a tight knit class, more like a family, and we have formed a sisterhood. We want our girls to leave each day feeling empowered, enabled and engaged in their learning and their education.
My Project
My students will use the pencils daily. When a child says I need a pencil and I can't provide them with one it feels almost shameful. I want to be able to provide my students with basic needs like pencils and glue, but also expose them to more technology.
We would use our document camera daily to show examples of their work and make their learning even more interactive. We would use the book boxes to replace the fraying cardboard book boxes they currently use. They can be reused from year to year which is more reliable and sustainable.
I want their school experience to be freeing for them.
I want them to associate school with endless opportunities. When resources are extremely limited it only reminds them of their grim reality at this time. I want them to dream of great possibilities for their futures and I want to give them basic tools to let their dreams soar.
