I Need A Clean Rug So My Students Won't Get Sick!!

My students need a new rug from Lakeshore Learning. My current rug is very old and is in terrible shape. It has withstood many spills and accidents as well as daily wear and tear for over 5 years. It makes me sad to see the children sitting on it and it is embarrassing when the parents visit. I also worry about the children with asthma. While I vacuum the rug daily, it is still filthy. About 2 years ago, we had a lot of construction in the building and the rug got splattered with grease stains that haven't come out either.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade in a bilingual classroom. We are a title 1 school, and have a majority population of immigrant and language minority students.

I teach all of my lessons on the rug in the classroom. The children spend much of their day there listening to read alouds, mini-lessons, talking with their partners, and doing hands-on math activities. The rug is filthy and disgusting. I feel like I want to cry every time I call them to sit there. They deserve better.

A new rug from Lakeshore Learning is just what we need. I find that new and clean materials motivate the children to work harder. I know they will help me to take care of our new rug. We can say goodbye to the grease stains leftover from a year of construction that the steam cleaner was unable to get out.

You will provide needy children with a safe and clean place to learn. Every public school classroom should be a place where anyone could feel comfortable sending their children to school, no matter what their background is. For many of our children, it is the only safe and clean space they inhabit. They deserve the best!!!
