Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Spanish to high school students. They are so eager and excited to learn a new language and to be able to put it into practice in their community and with their friends.
I teach in an inner-city school and most of my students are African-American or Hispanic.
All of my students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and receive free lunch. There is a lot of gang violence and crime in the surrounding neighborhoods, but my students are motivated to learn. They are eager to master a new language!
My Project
My students have to create several projects throughout the year to demonstrate their skills in a new language. I recently assigned a project that required students to film themselves cooking and narrating their cooking in the target language.
I am saddened to see how many students do not have access to technology that allows them to record and edit educational videos for school.
I want my students to focus on the content of their video and not to worry about how they are going to record and edit it. Having an iPad with a keyboard will allow my students to record and edit their videos. All of my students will be able to submit their assignments because they will have access to the technology that will allow them to do so.
