Help me give my students clay so they can create works of art.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Hum's classroom raised $215

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 5th grade in a Spanish and English Dual Immersion school. This means that instruction is taught in English and Spanish. Our students are mostly from immigrant families. Most of our students are English language learners, and 95% of them receive free lunch. Our school is located in a neighborhood struggling with drug and gang violence.
My students are rambunctious and sometimes unruly, but they are also resilient, wonderful, and hopeful.
They are dedicated to their families and loyal to their friends. They help out at home with younger siblings. Some of them are already responsible for the care of a younger brother or sister. They love all the things that any 10 year old loves... recess, friends, games, and field trips. They dream and hope for a better future.
My Project
I recently took my class to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. They were completely taken by the sculptures. They immediately asked me if we could create sculptures in the classroom.
Please support my students' creativity.
Students will use the clay to create sculptures from their imaginations or replicate the sculptures they saw. First I want them to study different kinds of sculptures from all over the world. We will compare and contrast material, subject matter and style of the sculptures. Then students will sketch their ideas first and finally transform them into works of art.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
