Help me give my students the gift of reading. My goal is to increase each student's reading level by providing leveled books that make reading fun and accessible.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students can de described as having lots of energy. They can also be very focused and determined. They are kind and thoughtful. When I told them that my house caught fire, they told me that they did not want me to spend money on treats for them, but instead use my money to buy a new house. They even said they would bring treats so I don't have to worry about it anymore. Some of them did! When so many of them don't have the basic necessities, it is beautiful to see that they can selflessly think about others.
My Project
It is not a cliche: reading IS fundamental for every subject that is taught in school. In order for my students to get better in Math or Science they need to be able to read on grade level. The emphasis this year is reading and I want to have more leveled books in my class library to improve reading levels by no less than 1.5 years by the end of the school year. The goal is for my students to have 30 to 45 minutes of uninterrupted reading time each day. Having a new influx of books will help them see how serious I am about the goals I have set for them. I want them to know that they are worth every penny that is spent on them.
