This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a kindergarten teacher in a general education class of 24 students. I want to provide my students with a wonderful learning environment full of hands-on experiences that encourage them to use their creative minds while learning the curriculum and core concepts.

My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and a lack of funding requires that teachers spend their own money to provide many of the resources for their students.

My students are enthusiastic learners who deserve the best education and materials to support their learning.

My Project

I like to set up activity stations for P.E. so that the children have multiple opportunities to get moving. When you play whole group games it takes awhile for all the children to have a turn and that means that they are actually not moving for a large part of P.E. Having different stations using materials like the easy-catch balls, crawling tunnels, and Let's Get Moving Activity mats, for example, allows all my students to be actively engaged. I also love the potential of the Movement Fun Activity Box. It seems like it would and be a great resource. When P.E. is presented in a fun way children learn to love to exercise. I am also asking for a variety of manipulatives including the waffle and design builders, and the crystal climbers. These sets of materials encourage the children to be creative and work together to build structures. These will be a great way for children to develop fine motor movements. I know my children will love to use these items on rainy days.

Those who teach in an inner-city school understand that it is very common not to have a grassy area on campus for children to run and play safely.

I am constantly trying to think of ways to create and provide access to gross motor activities in a fun and safe way. Because our playground is taken up with mostly asphalt for the bike path, I have to create defined spaces for other activities. With your generosity, my students will be able to engage in fun learning games and love being active!
