My Students

I currently teach students with autism in a Title One elementary school. My students are sensory seekers whether they are seeking deep pressure, movement, visual stimuli, or touch. Having items easily accessible for them to use during the school day will help keep them focused and regulated.

Learning to identify their own needs throughout the day is a goal for them whether in the special education classroom, in the general education classroom or other various settings.

Sometimes being able to wiggle while they work is the best outlet for their tiny bodies!

My Project

This grant will help me create materials for reading units that are engaging and fun for students. Providing reading that is fun is half the battle for struggling readers. Being able to find units easily will help take out many hours of prep on my end as well. I will also be able to find materials that can easily be used for distance learning days or if the school or classroom would need to quarantine. Prepping for the unknown at the last minute has added numerous hours to my workload this year, and I'd love to not have to recreate the wheel!
