Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a huge group of awesome students who are willing to learn and do what it takes to succeed. My group consists of kids with dyslexia, Special Education, bilingual, challenging behaviors, Gifted and Talented, and English learners. I love that everyone is different in their own ways and come in very early in the morning to be in my classroom. At the end of the day I have to hurry them up so they can go home because if it was up to them, they would stay in my class. Every day as we are walking in the hallway, they are asking me what it is that I will be teaching them.
My students are always excited and are always looking for new things to accomplish.
It is because of my students, that I am in this profession.
My Project
I am asking for 15 dictionaries and thesauruses because my students will be able to expand their vocabulary as well as use them to find definitions of words they don't understand. Since we are very close to Mexico, many students struggle with the language and this is a great way to help themselves. Their vocabulary is very limited because the only language they hear is their primary one which is spoken at home most of the time. The dictionaries will help by expanding vocabulary, helping with fluency, and definitely with comprehension as their vocabulary grows. Sometimes the lack of not understanding a word can throw them off and not get the message or main points of a story or even a conversation or simply a joke.
