Being a Reading Specialist with both Attention Deficit Disorder and dysgraphia, I fully appreciate my first graders' need, and the research-based benefit of, wiggling while they work! I plan to provide each six-seven year old with flexible/dynamic seating selections that optimize their individual learning style.
My school district provides free breakfast and lunch to 100% of our students.
My most at-risk students are transient, with several living in shelters/hotels. One of my students was excited to have their own bed after having slept in a recliner for a year and a half. Along with expanding my students' knowledge and talents, I am often advocating for and facilitating their acquisition of "wrap around services" to ensure their most basic needs are met.
I find many of my students do not have internet access/technology at home to access websites aligned with my classroom curriculum. I discovered an online Math skills program that provides dynamic, individualized support across the curriculum. However, it is not something neither myself nor the district can afford to fund. I would use this Donors Choose project to bring the program, I Know It! to my students.
My Project
Once I learned about the I Know It online math program, I knew it would be a welcomed addition to my class room. Our students use Chromebooks and would benefit from access to an individualized, challenging and online tool where skill mastery is fun at every level. As I work with small math groups, students would be able to make choices from the I Know It! Math games that would provide me individualized data to further drive my instruction/support. Students would be able to work together to solve problems and apply strategies which will support our social development as well.
