My students are eager to learn and to do their best. I have high expectations for my students because I always want to push them to their fullest potential. They love coming to school because they want to be successful one day. I teach at a Title 1 school, where the majority of students receive free and reduced lunch. I am asking for literacy station items to allow my classroom to become a meaningful learning experience.
Every morning when my students walk in, I greet them with a good morning.
Despite what may be going on at home, I want my students to feel safe and welcomed into a positive environment. I can not control what goes on at home, however I can control what occurs in my classroom. I focus on the potential growth a student has. At the end of the day, I always tell my students goodbye. I enjoy seeing the smiles on their faces, knowing I made a difference that day.
My Project
Students learn new words everyday! I love seeing the little light bulb go off in their head when they figure something out! Teachers need to go a step further with vocabulary. The students learn the definition, but there is more to it. I want to expand with synonyms, antonyms, and having the students use these vocabulary words in their writing. If we were able to get these hands on games, the children would be more engaged in learning new words. They would truly benefit because they would enjoy learning new words and their meanings.
I implement reading stations and afternoon stations every day in my classroom.
The vocabulary station would have these activities at it. It will also be differentiated to each students' ability level. Students also love to compete in anything, so I like to use games in my classroom. Several of the vocabulary activities are games, so they will definitely get involved and want to win! My students are immensely engaged when they have a game to play at a station.
In third grade, we have to take state testing every year. There is a section on vocabulary where the students have to use context clues to help determine words. If I was awarded the vocabulary activities, this would help my students improve in that vocabulary section as well. Each subject also has a writing section. If the students were able to expand their vocabulary knowledge, they would be able to write more efficiently on the state tests.
