My Students
I DO...I understand! This portion of the quote is the theme of my classroom. I hope to provide as many hands-on moments as time will allow this year. Many of my students will not have these opportunities at home; therefore, I want to bring excitement and new adventures to their learning experience.
The class is made up of a mixture of individual personalities, learning styles and learning challenges, but together we are a community that looks out for each other.
I have ELLs, IEPs, and students working below level in my classroom; however, if you were to walk in, you would not be able to identify these students. I maintain high expectations and my students are gently pushed according to their needs to meet them. The environment is warm and friendly; therefore, students are always participating and bringing their knowledge to the discussion, which helps enrich the material.
I would describe my school as a building of many leaders who work together to overcome the many challenges that we are faced with on a daily basis being a Title 1 school. We have a large Hispanic population and often time school to home communication can prove difficult. We, as teachers, often pull together and do our part to make the students feel successful during their time here.
My Project
Third grade is a big transition for entering students. The expectations are higher and the standards require more repetition by the teacher and practice opportunities for the students. With the ETA hands 2 mind resources, students will be challenged on the skills while working independently. The ETA is a self-checking resource; therefore, students will have instant feedback as to what they need to improve upon. The use of this resource will allow for me to work hands-on with other groups of students in the classroom or send home as a study tool.
The interactive white board games will enhance the technology use in the classroom. Each classroom received an interactive board with little resources to use with them. The games are content specific for the subjects taught, which guarantees that student engagement for each lesson will increase as well as memory retention of the skill. My students will LOVE this addition to our class instruction as it will be a regular occurrence in lessons.
Donations for this project will increase my ability to create a differentiated classroom.
With so many learning styles and barriers such as language or disabilities, my students will have multiple opportunities to be able to take away something from the lessons. Each student will have a chance to learn the material and feel successful. With more hands-on resources, students will make the necessary connections needed to be successful in this grade and beyond.
