This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first grade? It's a great time to learn through play and experiences! My school recently became a STEM school. Students in our school come from all types of backgrounds, mainly Hispanic and African American.

My students have a love and passion for learning, they come to school every day charged up and ready to tackle new challenges.

I am amazed by the way they think outside the box to solve problems and by their energy!

The majority of the students at my school are English learners with Spanish being the primary language spoken at home. Over 85% of students also qualify for free lunch. We are a Title I school as well. None of these things hold us back, they just make us shine even brighter!

My Project

In 1st grade, students become very easily distracted by the sights, sounds, and activities around them. As a teacher, I am hoping to help minimize these distractions by providing my students with headphones to use while they listen to reading independently.

Students will use these headphones daily during reader's workshop to listen to text while building fluency, as well as during math for games, as well for coding practice for STEM!

I want my students to become competent 21st-century learners, and these headphones will allow my 1st graders to focus on their independent learning while being able to more clearly hear the text that they are listening to, and use them other times during the day as well. Additionally, our classroom does not currently have working headphones, so these are absolutely essential tools for our independent learning time!
