My Students
Many of my students come from very challenging home environments where gang activity is present. They struggle to manage school life with limited support at home. Despite the hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn. My students hold on to the idea that education is the great equalizer, and they can be successful, but they need that right tools and support to reach their goals.
My Project
Headphones keep my students on task while they complete work that improves their knowledge of science. I am currently borrowing headphones from a teacher who is on special assignment. It was generous of her to make them available for my used, but she will need them back soon. It would be awesome if my class could have their own class-set. As a part of my student's daily work in class, they are often doing some self-directed blended learning, such as BrainPop Science, TedED, or EdPuzzle. Since each child is moving at their own pace, they need headphones so they will not be distracted by others. Providing students with the tools for success is vital in creating live long learners.
