My Students
I have the unique opportunity to work in a reverse mainstream preschool classroom. We have typically developing children that pay to come and act as peer models. We also have a variety of children with a variety of abilities on IEP's. I am the Speech Language Pathologist for 2 classrooms. We serve many children every day during 2 sessions.
The children with special needs learn social, language and classroom skills from their peers and the peers learn compassion and leadership skills.
My Project
Current speech and language research says, using amplification when working on speech and articulation improves the child's ability to hear the correct production of the sound.
Children learn speech by hearing it, when amplified, it is easier to hear the correct model and reproduce it.
I will be using the sound phones and microphone jukebox to work with students who have low intelligibility and articulation errors. We will target specific sounds that are difficult to produce. We will use the amplification to increase motivation and corrective feedback with the student. We will be able to use peers to model correct production of the sounds.
