I Have Something to Say

My students need the BIGmack Communicator and the Talking Buttons in order to communicate during activities in class. They also need the Twist Switch to access devices, like the computer, to participate in lessons.

My Students

I am a Special Education Teacher for students with severe disabilities. My classroom is a high school classroom with students ranging in age from 15-22. The students are non-verbal and have many physical needs in order to access their education. Along with the basic academics we work on helping the students communicate with the world. They require assistance through multiple avenues in order to make choices and communicate their wants and needs. They are excited to come to school and talk with the classroom staff and their peers.

My Project

My students will use the switches for talking during classroom activities. The students can answer questions, make choices, and comment during lessons. This gives the students a way to say something during class when they want to participate. The connector switch can give students the opportunity to turn pages of an eBook, use different appliances during cooking lessons, and work on vocational skills during Vocational Education classes.

When my students communicate in class they are excited that they have been heard.

Interacting with others around them makes students extremely enthusiastic to learn and keeps them engaged in our classroom lessons.
