My Students
My entire classroom is finally settling into new adjustments for the school year. For me, I am at a new school and for my students, they are getting used to a new teacher. I have noticed one problem that could possibly be changed immediately. It is also a problem that will address concerns with learning while meeting the needs of my students.
There is and will probably never be a dull moment in my classroom!
Although we only have a handful of students, my co-teacher and myself find that no matter how busy the day is, we love coming back for more. With the school year under way, there is still a need for additional resources for my students. Already having to travel far from home due to being placed in a program to address disabilities with learning, the day can become quite long. It can also bring about busier moments in the classroom than needed at times. For one student, a single resource is needed to address the desire to move about. For others, a quiet location in the classroom is needed to complete tasks.
My Project
A few of my students are having difficulties with being still during instruction. Their need to move has the ability to create distractions in the classroom that impact learning. To satisfy the needs of my students desire to move, the wobble chair that I am requesting will meet their needs. With this resource, there will be a better focus on learning and completing tasks. The mesh office chairs will replace the broken chairs that no longer have utility. Currently, student conferences have become a bit uncomfortable as the current chairs no longer provide proper height adjustments and are missing the arm attachment. This can create a possible accident in the classroom that we would like to avoid.
We have designated a quiet zone in our classroom for students who may need moments of solitude for instruction.
This is an area in which work is able to be completed, but due to possible environmental triggers, students are able to utilize the soft sack to practice strategies for behavior redirection or as work space. When not being used for the quiet zone, the soft sack could also double as a reading nook addition. With the added moon chair, more than one student could enjoy what it is like to cozy up to a good book or two. It is very possible that if funded, these resources would make the library area a favorite spot for my students. We are hoping that you will be able to help us!
