Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a Behavior Specialist, I have the honor and pleasure of working with students across all grades in my elementary school. With over 1,200 students and 70 teachers in our school, I work extremely closely with about 40 students, work intermittently with about 150 students, and collaborate with and support all 70 teachers when it comes to helping students exhibit the behaviors needed to be successful in the school setting.
The students I work with come from diverse backgrounds and have an array of different social and emotional needs.
These students are often lacking social, interpersonal, or self-regulatory skills which impact their ability to work with peers and complete their school work successfully, making school a tough place to be for these kids.
My Project
Sometimes students lack problem solving skills, and this often leads to struggles in managing their feelings, getting their work done, and, most importantly and a lifelong skill, interacting with others. When these problems arise, students don't always understand why it is happening or have the tools needed to deal with the issues, and they lose passion for learning. By helping provide books and games that focus on problem solving, you will be supporting instruction that will be provided in small groups and focus on indiviudal student needs that will allow these students to increase postive interactions with others, learn how to identify and manage thier feelings, and find a love for school!
