Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are what gives this campus life. They are our reason for getting out of bed and coming to work each morning. When I walk into my classroom at 6:30 each morning, I have students already waiting for me, ready to go, just to come work in my lab on homework or even simply to talk because they know school is their safest place to be. They love to be there and truth be told, I love to have them here. These guys are awesome. As a Title One school, most of our students aren't financially well off.
They look to our campus to provide them with their meals (they receive free breakfast, lunch, and dinner,) as well as their tech, Internet access and even social guidance, as their parents usually work full time and they can sometimes be left alone when they're at home.
My students are the best part of my life. I would like to return the favor of the joy they give me in teaching them by providing them with a classroom that is both safe and comfortable and has at least the bare essentials. I am hoping this site can help.
My Project
I teach in a lab which means we have a lot of fancy tech-y equipment lying around. My room is not very big and that also means students' stuff lies around everywhere. I have found myself locking up students' things in my drawers often, along with my own. We quickly filled up our first storage cabinet, but the rest of the cabinets have no locks! We had a recent break-in, and some of our stuff was ruined, sadly. That's where these cool locks come in. I would like to install these locks onto the cabinets so that all of our tech stuff and files will be safe. I would also like to continue my endeavor to complete my NAS project with one of the 2 SAT drives needed to finish it off so that our online stuff will also be safe. :)
