This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach fourth grade at an awesome Title I, neighborhood school in Florida. My students are a diverse group with various learning needs and challenges. Many come from different countries. For many of them, English is their second language. My students are motivated by hands-on, real-world, engaging activities. They love reading and math and learning new concepts daily.

We are a Title I school which means that more than 60% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches.

My Project

Our English as a Second Language (ESOL) population continues to grow. Each year I get at least three to four students that are new to the United States. Until these students become proficient in English it is difficult for them to understand what is being taught. Often this hinders their comprehension of the topics being taught.

The electronic translators will be beneficial to my ESOL students and will provide them a chance to understand the class lessons.

They will also serve as a helpful tool when I have conferences with the parents. Being able to communicate effectively is important to a child's success in school!
