I teach 125 freshmen every day with no walls. Each day, 125 14-year old kids, from a dozen different countries, with as many languages and special needs, come tumbling into my room. These kids are smart and savvy in so many ways. They are witty. They are resilient. They are full of potential, even when they don't know it but they need modeling and practice to learn.
My urban students deserve the same resources that their suburban peers receive automatically.
My Project
Our district simply can't provide everything our students need to learn, and my students can't learn without my help. Studies show, the gradual release method of teaching provides the most support and success for all learners. Once I model, and then we do it together, students are far more likely to succeed on their own.
This project gives us all the basics to establish a gradual release learning community where we can see, hear, read, write, and create TOGETHER.
For this project, I am requesting some technology and supplies so we can learn as an entire class. A laptop and projector will allow me to write in real time with the class, as well as allow students to showcase their work to the entire room. This technology, although standard in many schools, is not available to all teachers in my district. The varying paper and marker supplies will allow us to complete work in small groups and hang them on the...well, window shades.
