My Students
Music brings a classroom alive in a way that nothing else can. I teach in a K-5 public elementary school with a diverse population of about 1,400 students. My students are generally of low socio-economic status immigrant families from all corners of the globe. The ability to participate in a music ensemble, to play an instrument or sing, is a unique opportunity for many of these students.
I have seen music not only enrich their lives, but also give those who may not excel in other areas a chance to shine.
This is why, when we live in a world where music is often the first on the fiscal chopping block, it is so important to keep such opportunities alive for our children.
My Project
For the past couple years I have been trying to increase the use of technology in my classroom. I currently utilize a laptop, iPad and projector in nearly every lesson I teach.
However, I'm currently projecting my lessons onto sheets of white paper that are taped to the wall.
With this proposal, I'd like to obtain an actual screen so that my students can see the music videos and other media-based components of my lessons with clarity.
In a perfect world, I would obtain an interactive whiteboard, but that would be thousands of dollars to buy and install. This request is simple and easy to implement from day 1. Won't you help my students see the board?
