I love teaching eighth grade; students are in their year of transition. They have become leaders in middle school, and yet they are nervous and excited to become high schoolers. My students continue to deepen their knowledge and skills in the physical, life, earth, and space sciences. There is specific focus on explaining and understanding real-life events and processes in relation to the concepts and topics learned.
My students focus on applying scientific methods in order to deepen their understanding and work like actual scientists.
They practice and strengthen skills they learned in earlier years of middle school, while also learning new (and often more complex) skills.
My Project
I have the ability to allow my class to use iPads or Chromebooks throughout the year. I teach science and all eighth graders rotate through my class. My class sizes are approximately 25 students. Allowing each student to have a pair of headphones would allow me to incorporate more learning opportunities for each student. Some lessons may require them to watch a video and take notes or participate in interactive electronic labs. The possibilities would be endless if each student had a set of headphones.
If each student has a set of headphones that they can use with their Chromebook, it would allow me to set up numerous lessons and learning centers to meet each of their learning needs.
The possibilities would be endless!
A classroom free of disruption will help lead my students toward being successful and productive as they learn how to use and make sense of technology.
