This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is in Rockland County, New York and is considered a high-needs, low-income district, serving a diverse group of students. Most of our scholars are ENL (English as New Language Learners) and receive free or reduced-price lunch. We are a Title I School and many of our future leaders are struggling readers. My school is a STEAM academy focusing on the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math across the curriculum. To successfully integrate these subject areas and develop 21st century skills, students are working collaboratively to achieve their goals.

As the library media specialist, I enjoy providing our scholars a multitude of experiences connecting them to the curriculum and enhancing their learning while allowing them to come alive in the library.

In doing so, they can transform their learning through critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication.

My Project

To be successful and compete globally students need to practice their public speaking skills. In class, it can be very difficult to hear students answer questions. Many times students cannot hear each other because their voice is not projecting throughout the library. Because of this, the information each student is sharing is not getting out to everyone in the room. The QBall microphone is a throw-able mic that can be passed around the library when students are answering questions. I believe the QBall will encourage "shy" students to want to participate. This QBall microphone will encourage all students to participate in a fun and exciting way.
