My Project
Picture this scene. You're in a room of 26 fourth graders waiting excitedly to go on a virtual field trip to the San Diego Zoo. As the trip starts, everyone is buzzing about what they see. Maya laughs, "The front is a lion!" because our school mascot is the lion. Ivan says, "It looks huge!" and Karla taps your shoulder to make sure you heard, "A Caribbean flamingo". You smile because all 26 kids are engaged and experiencing a rare moment of awe. Some days for this group are hard, but today is going to be a great memory.
"I can't hear anything," Noah says with disappointment.
Suddenly the moment is gone and the struggle begins. What are you going to do?
This is our daily crisis. Students often need to listen in on audiobooks with a partner. We need to borrow pairs of headphones from other classrooms so we can complete progress monitoring assessments. Tools like Google ReadWrite can't be used by everyone to listen to their writing and improve editing because there aren't enough working pairs of headphones to go around.
