Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a school where 88 percent of my students receive free or reduced lunch and 50 percent are also English Language learners. I have noticed that my students often lack organization skills and time management. Therefore unfinished papers and projects are frequently misplaced, shoved into chair pockets or book boxes and in some cases torn or crumpled in a book.
Clipboards, labels and drawers will give the students organized places to store their unfinished work and projects.
When a paper is not finished they will put on a clipboard to work on throughout the day. At the end of the day they will place it in the labeled drawer to be checked or to finish later in the week.
When students finish work early they often want work on their ipads. A couple days a week I would like them to be creative and use the magnetic tiles. The paint and clay will be used for art projects and the prizes will be placed in my store for the students to purchase with their classroom reward dollars.
I want to prepare my students to be lifelong and confident learners in a safe and welcoming classroom. I know I cannot change what happens outside of my classroom, but I can encourage and give them the skills they need while in my four walls.
