Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Studies have shown that elementary learners are visual and kinesthetic learners. Our current classroom, unfortunately, lacks technology for our students to use. The iPad has so many amazing applications and Internet-based games that can reach a variety of different levels of learners.
Our class is located in an urban city in New Jersey.
Students at our charter school often come from homes that are in greatest need of assistance. Although many students come from low income families, they have a passion for learning. However, they never get the chance to experience technology style learning. Our classroom follows the co-teaching model. It is the inclusion classroom containing both special education and general education students.
My Project
In our school, we have chosen a math program that relies heavily on technology to demonstrate each lesson and gives extra enrichment online. I have requested an iPad so our students can experience our math program online. Along with the new math program, our grade has chosen a new reading program that is very interactive. It offers a full computer program and an Apple application that provides a full reading library. The program has each leveled story and many extra games to reach all learners. These are just a few activities that we could use an iPad for.
Giving our students the opportunity to experience this new technology will have so many benefits.
