My Students

Technology is more than just a way to bring games and Internet into the classroom, it is a way to help students connect to and explore the world around them. Providing my students with an iPad would give them the opportunity to research for projects and become more engaged in their curriculum.

My second grade students love to ask questions.

They are constantly wanting to know as much as they can about a topic. During class we research as much information as possible, but this is difficult at times. Our classroom lacks technology. I currently have twenty-three students with only two computers and no smartboard. Our school recently became a STEAM Academy, and I desire to incorporate as much of the "technology" part into the classroom as I can. With an iPad, I would provide my students with a way to practice researching and exploring the world around them. My students are also very digital and tactile learners. With an iPad, they would be able to practice and apply their math and reading skills with the different education apps in a very "hands-on" manner.

My Project

Throughout the day, our class works in both reading and math small groups. We also use computers to research information during science. With an iPad, my students would be able to watch educational videos and read information about their world. We also plan to have "pen pals" from different cities in the United States throughout the year. Our class would be able to use the iPad to Skype and email with other students about different topics such as weather, customs and cultures. This will help our class to make a more personal connection with their world rather than just reading stories and looking at pictures. Technology will open new doors for our students, and provide them with a way to continuously search for answers and to constantly ask more questions.

My students are very creative and "hands-on" learners.

An iPad will provide our class with the opportunity to practice math and reading skills in a much more exciting and engaging manner. By incorporating more technology into the classroom, my students will be able to move beyond the walls of our room and explore the world around them. The students already have the creativity and desire to learn. They just need the technology to help them apply their creativity and grow as lifelong learners.
