My Students

Can you remember the first time you read your favorite book, or were introduced to your favorite author? For me it was Roald Dahl that captured my attention and made me never want to put a book down. However, most of my students may never read at grade level and be able to enjoy such books.

My students are some of the most amazing 3 and 4 year olds you will ever meet.

They attend an elementary school in our nation's capitol that is in one of the most violent communities and has been one of the most under performing schools in the district for several years. While we are working day and night to make growth and help your students achieve, it starts at the bottom by providing our youngest learners with a strong and solid early literacy program.

My Project

With the materials we are requesting, my students will be able engage in an independent activity that will not only provide them with quality literacy instruction, it will allow for the teacher to work with a smaller group of students for more direct instruction. Through these Look What I Can Do! Literacy centers, students will begin to build letter/sound recognition, their vocabulary and build words. All of these skills are the foundation for helping to build strong readers.

These centers will help to engage my students in independent and engaging small group activities that will build their early literacy skills.

Building these skills early will help to make them better readers, which will hopefully help provided them with the foundation for a future with endless possibilities.
