My students need 1 standing desk and 1 desktop reference rack for access to the lessons at close range and in a manner that will work with their inability to stay in a seat.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At the heart of all matter lies the true substance. My children are the heart and soul of our school. They range in category from ADHD (Attention Deficit & Hyperactivity Disorder) to Autism to ED (emotionally disturbed). They don't see the world as others do and they don't understand why we complicate things the way they perceive us to. They can't be still for any length of time and they can't keep thoughts straight in their heads for long. They find everything wonderful and amazing and at the same time complex and confusing to the point where it all becomes frustrating. They are subject to violent outbursts and tantrums and at times, they simply shut down.
They are also playful and affectionate and I sincerely say to you that the love that they extend can overwhelm you with goodness.
They are at an age now where they are beginning to realize that they are "different" and at times my babies become withdrawn and at others it makes them defensive. They are my precious, delicate jewels.
My Project
Imagine yourself sitting in a seat all day while your insides are racing and your body just cannot sit still! The information is there on a board but you cannot focus. If only you could stand at your desk with the information in front of you. Yes! Then you could focus your attention on what's directly in front of you. This standing desk will create a personal work station for my children with ADD. Standing alone makes a huge difference. Without having to focus on being seated or the distraction of
others, what seems impossible becomes doable.
"Butterflies need to flutter." I always tell my children that when they need to move around. It is physically impossible for them to be still when they need to work. They want to work! This is the perfect solution. They can STAND AND DELIVER! The reference rack will enable the children to view information and share it in stations while simultaneously providing independence and aiding them in honing their research and writing development skills. Instead of an overwhelming amount of books on the table, pages will be placed in the pockets and they can view the work at individual paces and not feel bombarded. My little ones have spacial challenges and believe me, these items will indeed help.
