My students need a digital projector for the classroom so we are able to incorporate more technology into their education.

My Students

Imagine the frustration of having a SMARTBoard in your classroom where the students want to use it everyday, but because the projector that goes with it is always being carted off to be used by other teachers for videos and other projects, it is very unreliable and impossible to reserve everyday.

Many of my middle school students are ESL who are the first generation in their family to be an American citizen.

The school is a low-income, public charter school where all the students are of east African descent. The teachers end up putting most of their salary toward the classroom because of low funding. They don't have many opportunities to use technology outside of school, so I try to use as much in my classroom as possible. However, this is extremely difficult because of budget cuts and lack of funding. It is heartbreaking to hear my students asking for more interactive activities in the classroom, and having to tell them that because there isn't enough money to buy the technology that is needed for the projects that they want to do, they can't.

My Project

Having a projector in the classroom that the students can rely on everyday for activities would allow for them to become familiar with technology. This is where you, the wonderful donors, come in. The classroom has a SMARTBoard that the students are so eager to use, but because of the economic standing of our school, we can only afford one projector that is to be shared among all of the middle school teachers. With a projector that can be used everyday, my students would be able to use technology everyday with web based activities. And because so many of them are ESL, using technology would take away much of the language barrier in the science classroom and make it much easier to differentiate within the regular education classroom. They would be able to have more interaction among their peers.

The projector will give the students a chance to become familiar with technology and interactive activities.

It is so important that these students stay excited about coming to school everyday as there is a high dropout rate among the population. By bringing something as simple as a projector into the classroom it will open so many doors for all the students, and create so many possibilities for them.
