Many of my middle school students are ESL who are the first generation in their family to be an American citizen. The school is a low-income, public charter school where all the students are of east African descent. The teachers end up putting most of their salary toward the classroom because of low funding. They don't have many opportunities to use technology outside of school, so I try to use as much in my classroom as possible. However, this is extremely difficult because of budget cuts and lack of funding. It is heartbreaking to hear my students asking for more interactive activities in the classroom, and having to tell them that because there isn't enough money to buy the technology that is needed for the projects that they want to do, they can't.
