My 14 and 15-year old eight and ninth-grade students who are learning about science. Our classroom has a class set of chrome books so each student has access to their own computer in class each day. We use a mix of technology and hands-on science labs and activities to teach, and enrich students' understanding of science skills. I have a variety of students with different backgrounds, learning styles, and learning preferences as well as different levels of learning skills.
My Project
Students engage best when they can be involved in the learning process rather than just observe it. They also need the ability to see each other and interact with throughout the learning process.
With the current situation we are in and the need to limit contact between students meeting in person, I need a solution to help them still have access to the best learning methods.
The desk dividers will help me provide more of these opportunities for the students in my science classroom. The dividers have the ability to be set up in a variety of ways allowing for multiple seating arrangements.
The clear dividers will allow arrangements into groups, allowing students to see and discuss ideas with each other while having a protective barrier.
They will also be able to collaborate for labs. With the need to limit the contact between students and supplies, the dividers would still allow students to work in small groups to observe and participate in experimenting up close, rather than the teacher demonstrating at the front of the room. The dividers will contain all lab materials which provide important lab safety in addition to health barriers.
I have previously had students use dry erase markers on page protectors to share ideas & draw models of their thinking. The dividers will be able to be used for this and be an easy surface for students to compare their thinking with others.
Finally, when testing, students be able to have paper laid over the dividers to help keep their focus on their own assessment and not who is or isn't finished yet.
