I teach eighth-grade science in a small, rural Tennessee town. We are in a high poverty area, and many of my students do not always have the same opportunities as students in urban areas.
Creating the ideal classroom environment is critical to academic success.
My students are inquisitive, eager to learn, and love new challenges! Our new curriculum is project-based and enables all students to work at their own pace through the required work. Progress is monitored through checkpoints, and students can easily see how they are progressing through their 8th-grade work.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to expand my students' horizons. Providing them with activities that stretch their brains and provide them with a challenge will motivate and engage my students.
My Project
Fluorescent lighting is a staple in school classrooms. However, fluorescent lighting is not best for all learners. There have been studies on the less than positive effects of fluorescent lighting and recent trends towards using natural light and floor lamps in classrooms. Due to the configuration of my classroom, neither natural light nor floor lamps are a viable option.
I want to provide my students with fluorescent light covers in aqua blue and in tropical fish designs to reduce the glare in our science classroom.
These blue colored covers will create a welcoming environment for my students to study in.
