I Can Read!

My students need 24 "Biscuit the Dog: I Can Read" beginner reading books that can be housed in the library so that students can use them for years to come.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Tilley's classroom raised $148

This project is fully funded

I am the librarian in an inner city K-6 elementary school. My library budget is very limited, especially this year, and I am in constant need of good quality library books for my students. All 370 of the students come to library each week and almost all the children take out library books.

About halfway through the year, I introduce my kindergarten students to "I Can Read" books that they might want to take out. Many of the Kindergartners are starting to read, and those that aren't, are really trying to learn. My problem is that I don't have enough beginner reading books. Those that I do own are old and disheveled.

The favorite "I Can Read" book for Kindergartners are the Biscuit Books. Biscuit is a beloved dog that has all sorts of adventures and the books use simple words, run rhymes and familiar situations. These books appeal to both boys and girls. I would like to order enough of these books to have for all my kindergartners. However, right now I only have enough books for about ten students to take out. I know that as an educator, windows of opportunity arise and that if you are not ready to meet them, sometimes the opportunity won't present itself again for quite some time.

My students just love to read and their enthusiasm is catching. Once one child starts to read a book in a series, they quickly tell all their friends how good it is, and then all the kids want a similar book. It would be great to have enough books to offer my students. These books will be housed in the library, so that they will be available for students for years to come. With your help, students can have the books that they can read and enjoy.
