My Students
I teach 2nd grade at a K-5 district school in Daly City, CA. My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. A third of my students are English Language Learners, and many more come from immigrant families. Over one third of my students are from low income households.
My students are kind, fun, and love to learn.
They are avid readers, yet also very diverse in their reading ability. Some of my students are still reading at a kindergarten level, while others are close to a fourth grade level.
My Project
Some of my second grade students are still reading at a Kindergarten level. I need beginner reading books to meet the needs of those students and provide them with independent texts that they can read.
It is important that students are reading texts that are at their level.
When a student tries to read a book that is too hard for them, it hurts, rather than helps their reading growth. These beginning reading books will provide my most dependent readers with texts to read in class and at home.
I also need phonics phones for some of my students. These allow students to hear themselves as they read, which helps them build their fluency and accuracy.
