I Can Read This Book!

My students need to experience excitement when they find books they can read! Dr. Seuss books are at their level and they are FUN.

My Students

My first graders come from very different homes with very different experiences. Many are transitional and may only be with me for a short time. Each child brings something special and uniquely beautiful to our classroom. And despite each home circumstance, we come together as a class family to do great things! We are a Title One classroom with 98% of the families qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Their socioeconomic status does not hold them back. Their thirst for knowledge helps them move mountains. I enjoy watching their enthusiasm for learning!

When they say, "I can read this!" My heart melts and tears of joy come to my eyes.

My Project

It's difficult to find fun books that are easy for first graders to read. Dr. Seuss books have fun rhymes, repetitive text, and colorful illustrations which make these books very engaging to all young readers.

Dr Seuss reading hour.

I'd like to have at least one book available for each student for reading. During this time, students will have an opportunity to visit our Dr. Seuss library to pick a book to read and enjoy.

Dr. Seuss books are easy to pair up with a creative learning experience. Students can pick their favorite book to create a diorama, commercial, or flier sharing with the class why that book is their favorite.
