My Students
Our school is a public, all-girls, 6-12 Title I school nestled in the heart of Atlanta that serves 100% Black and Latina girls. Our girls are compassionate, creative, resilient, inquisitive, full of energy, and optimistic about their future possibilities. Despite the barriers they may encounter, our students walk into our front doors where there is a full staff waiting to nurture their potential.
Our school has been recognized as a nationally accredited STEM certified school and we believe that learning is an extension of each child's home and community.
Our new focus is to pursue STEAM certification by incorporating creativity, innovation, and an appreciation for art into our problem and project-based learning units (PBLs). Though funds are low, our drive is high as we push our girls to become globally conscious, college, and career-ready STEMinists.
My Project
Learning another language is not only beneficial, but necessary for success in life. By learning another language, students will gain greater academic achievement, greater cognitive development, and a more positive attitude towards other languages and cultures. The language proficiency includes speaking, listening, writing, and reading.
My amazing students have learned basic Japanese characters in a short time and they are ready to explore reading in Japanese!
This will be a challenging endeavor, but we are ready for it and my students will improve their problem-solving skills and increase their vocabulary. The picture books I am requesting will help my students to improve their context clue skills and understanding of cultures. By supporting this project, you will be providing books that will serve as a window to another culture and strengthening essential life and learning skills for my students.
