Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My school is a bilingual magnet school. Students take the bus from other areas to take advantage of our bilingual program. I would love to have resources that really speak to who they are and that validate their community. I want books that also speak to students about racial justice and equality. I want to make these books available in my classroom but also in the library for students to be able to check out and read at home. I also think these books have great lessons that translate into art works.
I want to make art projects based on these racial justice books.
I would love crayons, colored pencils, markers, pastels, and paints that come in various skin tones. I want my students to create portraits and characters that look like themselves and members of their community. I also want dot marker books for my special education students to learn their numbers and letters with tools that are easy for them to manipulate. I want story time to become more interactive for my special education students with these fun activities before and after circle time.
