Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first-grade teacher with 25 students who just came out of covid. My amazing students have many barriers this year after being online for 18 months.

They are so excited to come back to school and learn with their friends.

It's wonderful to see them talk , laugh, and learn in person.

My Project

My students need more level books in their hands. They have been learning these past 18 months online. I usually do not have these level books in my classroom because the kindergarten students come to my class with basic reading skills.

All of my students are struggling with their reading skills,

First graders don't know how to hold a book because of last year's school year. They are so behind in phonic, phonemic awareness, and high-frequency words. What I am so sad about is the kids have not had an opportunity to hold a book. Help me catch up with these students and teach them how it feels to read a book by themselves.
