This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a middle school Spanish teacher. I teach Spanish 1 and 2. My students are very enthusiastic about learning Spanish. I try to make my classroom a place where students feel encouraged and where they can experience success. Reading is the best way to increase vocabulary and fluency in a language, whether it is your first language or a new one. My students will benefit of having a variety of books to read in our Free Voluntary Reading sessions.
My Project
Dr. Stephen D. Krashen stated that "People acquiring a second language have the best chance for success through reading."
Many students lack the time and/or motivation to read for pleasure.
They look at reading as something that they have to do for school but hardly ever consider it a fun activity. I want to give my students the opportunity to read for fun with no additional work assigned other than to simply enjoy reading.
We are requesting a variety of books in Spanish. With these books, I want to increase the variety of themes and levels of my “Biblioteca en Español" so that students can find a book that they enjoy. Having success in comprehending these novels (written for Spanish learners) will greatly increase students' confidence, motivation, and proficiency. The books that I am requesting have been carefully written by leaders in the field of foreign language teaching.
