Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from one of the poorest neighborhoods in our area, where all of our students qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch. Our school is a K-8 entity with 99% of the population a minority. State funding per pupil is less than a public school, which means fewer materials for the school community. We work hard as a team: the teachers, students, families, as well as outside community members work to provide the best education for the children.

Everyone in our building believes we can get the best out of our students and provide them with the resources needed to be successful.

Whatever they may be unable to get at home, we do our best to provide them with at school, often through purchases out of our own pockets because we use whatever means necessary for our kids.

My Project

I have selected technology that will allow me to provide real time lessons as well as recorded videos for my students. The document camera can share read aloud books in realtime, that the students can see clearly. I can talk to the students and hear the students with no outside noise through the headphones on our list.

The titles and authors selected are engaging and quality literature, both fiction and non-fiction to be shared as read alouds.

The literature is a range of genres and topics, interest for all students.
