My Students
I am the art teacher to about 450 students. Our area has a significant amount of hardships due to lower incomes, which means 60% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches, and to where their home lives can be pretty scary. So, coming to school is a safe environment for them.
My third and fourth grade art students are craving the chance to creatively explore different types of painting materials and learn how to paint.
My goal is to give my students a fun, loving, and caring environment where they feel safe to play, to learn, to love, to trust, and to just be a kid!
My Project
I would like to teach my third and fourth grade students how to paint with acrylic materials. Bob Ross, his landscapes and his "Happy Trees" are famous and the style of his paintings is one that most people can easily pick on and is an easy and fun way to learn how to paint.
These canvases will give my students the chance to experiment with painting materials and give them the confidence and skills needed for their future art works.
Almost every kid likes to get their hands dirty and especially my students. Their favorite thing to do is to make their paint shirts as messy as they can so they will have a tie dyed tee-shirt at the end of the year. Learning to paint with acrylics and using a real canvas vs. a paper will give them this opportunity.
