I Can Do My Part! Composting and Gardening

Help me give my students the compost bin, hydroponic growing system, and books to learn about composting and hydroponic gardening. Our gardening club can learn first-hand about how to help the environment by composting and growing their own food!

My Project

We started a gardening club here to extend our passion for plants to our students. I hope to teach my students the value of growing their own food. We have outdoor raised beds, but, of course, the school year is mostly over the winter, and most of what grows here is harvested over the summer months. I want to add an indoor hydroponic system so we can work all year!

Children create a large amount of food waste.

They will take a bite of something new and decide they do not like it. Children also do not eat much at one time. Instead of throwing these food scraps in the trash, children can learn to compost them in a worm farm!

As the climate crisis becomes an inevitable part of our life, students need to know economicy and versatile ways of growing food for their future! Students will learn how hydroponic systems are more climate friendly and understand that not all waste is trash. Some waste can become food for the future.
