Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have special needs like Autism, Specific Learning Disabilities and Speech and Language Impairments among other disabilities. These students live in a tough area of South Los Angeles were many are considered to come from very, low-,income households.
My students enjoy coming to school and learning as much as they can.
They put forth effort in all of their school lessons and activities. They will benefit from any materials and supplies that we can have donated through DonorsChoose.org.
My Project
Kids now are not as active and healthy as kids were before technology took over. My students would rather play with tablets, phones and or other handheld devices instead of being active. When I have touched this subject with them, they always answer, "But there isn't anything fun to do." One day we made a list of things that requires physical activity and that they would consider fun. Most of the activities included music, dancing, and movement. My students stated that music makes them naturally move around and be active. Therefore, I am requesting two iPads, headphones and protective cases so that my students can explore the website gonoodle and be active. This website provides a vast majority of dancing and exercise videos aimed at kids, making it fun and entertaining to be active. My students will be able to log on to this website when they are finished with their work early; therefore, adding active minutes at any time possible throughout the day.
I am also requesting supplies like moving mats, wrist ribbons, jump ropes, and ball tossing games that will allow the kids to be active and complete the required activity time for students.
The jump ropes, moving mats and wrist ribbons will give them cardio time during our set P.E. time. The ball toss game will also allow them to practice their ball tossing and running to get the ball; therefore, giving them even more opportunities for active exercise time.
